Pen and Ink Drawing of Tall Ship Pheonix

Phoenix
Pen and Ink on Mylar
Size: 28" x 19"
Date: 1984

Phoenix started life in 1929 as a Danish evangelical mission schooner. Twenty years later she retired from missionary work and carried cargo, until her engine room was damaged by fire in 1972.
She was bought by new owners in 1974, who converted her into a Brigantine, before being purchased by Square Sail in 1988.

In 1996, she underwent a 2-year refit which saw her rig change to that of an 18th century Brig, with an overall length of 112ft. (34.43m). Phoenix has had many film roles including La Mouette in 'Frenchmen's Creek', Daydream in the 'Scarlet Pimpernel' as well as 'Le Pacte des Loups', 'Random Passage' and 'Shaka Zulu: The Citadel'.
